Marina Warner was born in London of an Italian mother and an English father who was a bookseller. She is a writer of fiction, criticism and history. Her works include novels, short stories, as well as studies of art, myths, symbols, and fairytales. Her memoir Esmond and Ilia is published by New York Review Books.
