Zusammenfassung

Pistis Sophia (The Message of Resurrected Jesus) is a major late-antique Gnostic scripture, preserved in Coptic, that presents the risen Christ instructing his disciples after the resurrection. Its narrative centers on the fallen and repentant Sophia, whose ascent through the hostile cosmic powers becomes an allegory of the soul's liberation. Combining dialogue, hymn, mythic cosmology, and scriptural exegesis, the work belongs to the esoteric Christian milieu that reimagined salvation as revelatory knowledge. The author is unknown, and the text likely emerged from a community steeped in early Christian devotion, Jewish scriptural interpretation, and Gnostic speculation. Its anonymity is significant: rather than foregrounding an individual writer, the book claims authority through apostolic dialogue and the voice of the resurrected Jesus. The author's evident familiarity with Psalms, mystical ascent traditions, and complex cosmological systems suggests a learned religious circle concerned with repentance, ritual speech, and the soul's passage beyond oppressive archons. This book is recommended for readers interested in the diversity of early Christianity, the development of Gnostic theology, and visionary religious literature. Though demanding, it rewards careful reading with a profound meditation on suffering, redemption, and spiritual awakening.

Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) was a Finnish physician, philologist and collector of traditional Finnish oral poetry. He is best known for creating the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, from short ballads and lyric poems gathered from the Finnish oral tradition during several expeditions in Finland, Russian Karelia, the Kola Peninsula and Baltic countries.
