Jeff "Skunk" Baxter is a world-renowned guitarist who has earned multiple Gold and Platinum albums and two Grammy Awards and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Baxter has served as a writer, columnist, and reviewer for publications ranging from Guitar Player, Guitar magazine, Billboard, Mix, Recording Engineer-Producer, Radio & Records, Modern Recording, Wired, Money, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and many others, and as a consultant for AKAI, Apple, Guild Guitars, Vox Guitars, Roland, Fender, Tascam, and Gibson/Epiphone, which launched a Jeff Baxter Signature Series of acoustic and electric guitars.
Baxter's second career as a consultant for the aviation and defense industry has included a Congressional appointment to chair the Civilian Advisory Board for Ballistic Missile Defense and participation in numerous wargames for the Pentagon and the US national security community. He is a Senior Fellow and member of the Board of Regents at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, a Senior Thinker at the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition, and a member of the Director's Strategic Red Team at MIT/Lincoln Laboratory. Baxter was invited to serve on the Laser Advisory Board at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and has lectured at the University of Manitoba School of Political Science and Oxford University on the topic of regional conflict and missile defense.
He has served as a consultant to Charlie Allen, Under Secretary for Intelligence & Analysis at the Dept of Homeland Security, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and NASA's Exploratory Systems Advisory Committee. In the private sector, he has worked as a consultant for Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop-Grumman, and General Dynamics Information Technologies, among others.
Baxter continues to tour and play live shows extensively and records music for studio session work, movie and television soundtracks, and commercials. When he's not traveling the world, he resides in Los Angeles.
