Small town detectives must solve a bizarre murder while staying ahead of the gossip that spreads like wildfire in Poplar Falls.

When the promiscuous new guy in town, Charlie Baker, is found dead in his apartment, tied to a four post bed and a pillow still on his face, Detectives Franklin Dodge and Roxanne Tilley must investigate the strange circumstances surrounding Charlie'' s death. At the same time new evidence arises in an unsolved burglary case of the thief the locals call the Panty Bandit. With a long list of suspects for a murder and new developments in what had been a cold case, the biggest challenge the detectives face is the race against the constant gossip being spread through town by the elderly women known as the Naughty Knitters. As stories spread throughout the small town more and more people become involved in ways nobody saw coming, and all of them debate which of Charlie Baker'' s lovers is the one guilty of murder.
