Ricky was excited. His parents were going to build a new home with a greenhouse. But when he saw the property, he was devastated. Right in the middle of the homesite was a beautiful saguaro. How could his parents even think of building here? Ricky's father explained that they were going to relocate the saguaro into temporary storage and then put it back when construction was finished. Ricky was skeptical. He didn't see how a plant so huge could be moved, but when he saw how carefully the cactus was bundled up, he knew everything would be okay.
Then he had a great idea. He would do his school project on saguaros and the desert community. His project was such a success that his teacher asked him to repeat it at the library.
When the saguaro was home again, Ricky's mother asked why he was gazing at the property and looking so thoughtful. His answer delighted her.
