Navdeep Suri retired from the Indian Foreign Service in 2019 after a distinguished thirty-six-year career. His diplomatic postings included Cairo, Damascus, Washington, Dar es Salaam and London. He also served as India's consul general in Johannesburg, ambassador to Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, and high commissioner to Australia. In recognition of his contribution to strengthening India-UAE relations, the president of the UAE awarded him the Order of Zayed II, the country's second-highest civilian honour. Suri has learnt Arabic and French and holds a master's degree in economics. A respected commentator on the geopolitics and geoeconomics of the Middle East, he has co-edited A 2030 Vision for India's Economic Diplomacy, I2U2: Pathways for a New Minilateral and IMEC: Towards a New Discourse in Global Connectivity. His English translations of works by his grandfather, the celebrated Punjabi novelist Nanak Singh, include The Watchmaker, A Life Incomplete, Khooni Vaisakhi, Hymns in Blood and A Game of Fire.
