This was exactly the choice that Chris Graham was faced with when, aged 38 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease; a disease he realised had killed his father in his forties and was the reason his brother Tony was in a nursing home aged forty-three.
Chris was a long-serving British commando, who had just found love with girlfriend Vicki and discovered they were expecting a baby. The news turned their world upside down. After dismissal from the army due to his health, Chris he and Vicky then found out any childof Chris's had a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the rare gene that caused his dementia. After his son Dexter's birth, Chris embarked on a 16,000-mile solo endurance cycle around North America raising money and awareness for Alzheimer's Research. He was armed only with his bike, a sense of humour and some British grit and was racing against time, dementia, and the future that could also be awaiting his children.
