Excerpt:
"I need you," I said, daring to step closer until my legs were against the desk and my body almost touched his. "I need my husband."
"Please, Daisy. Do not ask this of me."
It was the first time he said my name since our wedding and I couldn't wait to hear it again and again. "You married a woman of flesh and blood with needs."
Jacob pulled his hand back and stood up with such force his chair tumbled backward. His wings spread wide, causing the papers to fly off his desk.
"And you married a monster made of stone," Jacob hissed, extending his claws.
If he wanted, he could slice me in half with those, but I knew he wouldn't. He was more scared of hurting me than loving me.
"Please, your Grace, Jacob," I said, extending my hand out to him.
His wings shivered when I said his name.
"I could hurt you, scar you, break you," Jacob growled.
"I trust you," I said as I took a step forward, encouraged when he didn't back away.
